AI Agents & Workflow Automation
Design and test bounded AI workflows and understand when agent-based systems add value, complexity or risk.
15 lessons. A practical outcome.
Open a lesson to see what your team will learn.
01Prompts, Workflows, Automations & Agents
Compare a one-off request, defined sequence, triggered automation and agent that chooses steps. Identify when a simple workflow is sufficient.
02Choose a Suitable Process
Select a recurring process with clear inputs, outputs and limits. Evaluate volume, variability, risk and whether the result can be checked.
03Map the Process Before Automating
Document triggers, dependencies, owners and exceptions. Improve unnecessary steps before adding AI or connecting systems.
04Define Inputs & Output Schemas
Specify required fields, acceptable values and missing-data behaviour. Practise turning free text into structured outputs that can be validated.
05Design Multi-Step Workflows
Separate extraction, analysis, drafting and review. Define what each stage passes forward and prevent unchecked errors from becoming accepted facts.
06Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
Understand how retrieving approved material can support answers. Explore source references, freshness and retrieval gaps; retrieved context does not guarantee correctness.
07Build an Internal Knowledge Assistant Concept
Define a bounded knowledge scope, authorised documents and access rules. Design an answer that cites evidence or routes an unresolved question to a person.
08Tools, Connectors & Permissions
Understand what connecting email, CRM or documents lets a system do. Limit access to the task and distinguish reading from writing or sending.
09Agent Instructions & Boundaries
Specify objectives, allowed actions, limits and stop conditions. Avoid broad goals that invite unexpected steps or unauthorised changes.
10Human Approval Gates
Place review before consequential actions such as sending messages or updating records. Decide what evidence the reviewer needs to approve safely.
11Testing With Representative Cases
Create ordinary, ambiguous, missing-input and adversarial examples. Check accuracy and task completion against known expected results.
12Prompt Injection & Untrusted Content
Explore how instructions embedded in retrieved documents or messages can misdirect a workflow. Treat external content as data and practise detecting unsafe action requests.
13Monitoring, Cost & Failure Handling
Define logs, usage limits, timeouts and escalation. Plan for tool failures, poor retrieval and unavailable services, including a manual fallback.
14Pilot, Maintain & Improve
Run a bounded trial with agreed measures and an owner. Review errors, update sources and retest after changing prompts, tools or data.
15Final Challenge: Design a Bounded AI Workflow
Create and test a sandbox prototype or detailed simulation that reads approved material, drafts an output and stops for human approval. Document limits, tests and fallback behaviour.
Leave with something
you can use.
- Workflow specification
- prototype or simulation
- permission map
- test set
- monitoring and fallback plan
What the review looks for
The final challenge brings the course together through practical work and review.
A path built around progress.
- 01
Lesson
Understand the concept.
- 02
Exercise
Practise with guidance.
- 03
Task
Apply it yourself.
- 04
Review
Reflect and improve.
Practical skills.
A certificate to show it.
Complete the assigned learning, submit the practical challenge and meet the agreed review requirements. Recognise that achievement with a certificate of completion.
Your programme brief confirms the requirements, reviewer and certificate delivery before you begin.
